The church's side chambers are filled with priceless oil paintings and holy objects. Some are portraits of the numerous donors to the church, while others feature religious themes or figures.

With the majestic Passeio dos Cónegos as a backdrop, take the opportunity to have a coffee on the numerous terraces that dot the square, admire the statue of El-Rei D. Duarte, o Eloquente, or the frescoes in the house of Almeida e Silva, a painter and sculptor from Viseu at the beginning of the 20th century.
Republica square is leafy and flower-filled, with a fountain and merry-go-round. It's also bordered on one side by an azulejo mural. During festivals and events, there are usually activities in this square but even without extra thrills, the café in the centre is a popular spot with locals.
One of the reasons why Viseu ranks so highly as a place to live is its abundance of green spaces and pretty public squares. Parque Aquilino Ribeiro is a great place for a picnic with plenty of shade, grassy areas, trees and a pond.
Viseu has a lot of cultural events going on for a small city, like as public art projects, concerts, wine festivals, and free street theater. The Feira de São Mateus, which starts in August, is one of the city's main annual festivities. This is the place to go if you enjoy funfairs and concerts.
